KryKey Personal Radio - Additional Options for DJs' Personal Radio Stations.

There is a multitude of personal radio stations (PRS) on KryKey. They are from all corners of the globe. KryKey offers the web radio listener many options and opportunities to receive quality broadcasts from many different cultures in many different languages. If you are already a PRS owner you are probably aware of the KryKey system. It is easy to set up a PRS. All you do is create a free account and begin uploading (correctly tagged) mp3s from your hard drive. You can then create playlists for your radio station (which has a specific KryKey domain address so that listeners can tune in). In addition to the music you upload you can also add promos, advertisements and podcasts. A lot of the more successful stations make money through selling advertising space for their stations. While the music is playing you have the option to 'talkover' the music, direct from your computer, using the inbuilt (or external) microphone.

In essence KryKey provides a radio studio which gives you the capability to broadcast direct from your own home.
In this blog I wish to discuss the features which are also available but which may not seem obvious. I realise that not all DJs are content with the automix mp3 system, which autocues direct from the playlists so that there is no gap between songs. Some of you may be 'performance' or 'live' DJs and desire to actually mix your tunes. The new version of KryKey (v 2.0) is about to be released which allows a line-in feature so that you will be able to connect your mixing desk direct to the PC and do live broadcasts direct from your record / CD players. This feature will also appeal to live bands who may wish to broadcast their jamming sessions, or even their live gigs. There are a lot of DJs with longer recordings of their DJ mixes or podcasts. Using the standard upload system these mixes are in general too large. However, don't despair! We can add larger podcasts to your music library, direct from our admin console. The easiest way to do this is for you to upload the mix in mp3 format to a filesharing platform like mediafire, then supply us with the link information. If you have trouble converting files to mp3 format, there are many decent free mp3 convertor programs available. I personally use a program called xilisoft.

As a house music DJ who mixes records, I have benefited from this feature and have a station (
wezgradio.co.uk) which streams my mixes constantly. Another point to mention here which may not seem obvious, is the ability to set up your own domain names and forward these domains to your KryKey PRS address. It is handy to do this as it makes life easier for your listeners and also enables you to list your stations in search engines and therefore potentially increase your listener base. We are always open to ideas and feedback from you, the KryKey users. We are an adaptable company and encourage you to propose new ideas. We want to deliver the ultimate web radio platform and be industry leaders. Should you wish to contact me regarding any of the features that are mentioned here, or any additional services that you want to see on KryKey please email wez@krykey.com Tune in, broadcast, spread the word about KryKey to your friends and, most importantly, ENJOY!
