KryKey Web Radio 4 Your Business

One innovative way that KryKey Web Radio is being used is by businesses to promote themselves, their products and their services. Some businesses are also using KryKey Web Radio to play on location for their customers, although a better solution to stream music into their business is using KES (www.KryKeyES.org).

Caldera Cafe Bar Restaurant is one of those businesses that has taken this service and used it by recording the music played at their Sunday parties by local DJs and then playing this music on their web radio station. I am told they also plan to record promos and information to also play. [click here for their web radio]

One feature in KryKey Web Radio is the ability to upload promotions, news and adverts in MP3 format and then play these between music tracks. A good example of these is London Web Radio [click here] which has promos for the web radio station and also by artists introducing their music. Desert One in Las Vegas [click here] also uses promos for artists to introduce their music.

We also mentioned earlier in this series of Blogs not only businesses can promote themselves, but also DJs and artists.

Check them out and if you need ehlp please do not hestitate to ask as we are here 24/7 to help.

KryKey Spotlight an Artist : Joe Venice

In our continuing "Spotlight an Artist" series here on KryKey Personal Web Radio, today's Artist is Joe Venice from the USA.

Joe Venice is emerging onto the music scene with his sultry voice that is mesmerizing people all over the country. This singer/songwriter is working on his self-titled debut CD with producers Rick “Steel”, Frankie Vinci and Paul Wonder. His eclectic mix of sounds send listeners into a sensory overload that is sweeping people off their feet. With a captivating stage presence, Joe is charming fans all over while winning their hearts.

Joe has been involved with music from a young age. Performing at local events, charities, hospitals, and parties made Joe truly love being on stage. He started writing music at the age of 12 and has continued to develop his talents day by day. Music was always an outlet for Joe: “I was tested with adversity at a young age and music became my everything. I love writing and performing. It just feels right.” Throughout high school Joe performed wherever he could-gaining a fan base at an early age. He was apart of theater and concerts, winning awards and receiving publicity for his talents.

When Joe is not writing, recording or in front of a microphone, he makes time for coaching high school athletes. He coaches a high school football team at Stepinac High School in White Plains, New York. This is just another aspect of Joe’s life that he is passionate about.

“An artist clearly on his way to superstardom…” says TV personality Clive Swersky. Joe was recently a special guest on his TV show Alive with Clive and is apart of Clive’s’ TOP 20 where fans vote for their favorite artist to be featured on a compilation CD to benefit AIDS in Africa. Right now Joe is number 3 moving his way up the TOP 20 after only 3 weeks!

Joe received national exposure last year not for his music, but for acting. He was featured in the MTV promotional shoot for the film Prom Night starring Brittany Snow. After that he made small appearances on the hit TV shows Gossip Girl (CW), Lipstick Jungle (NBC) and the upcoming show Kings (NBC).

He recently performed at a SOLD-OUT NY Knicks game at Madison Square Garden. Singing the National Anthem was a great honor for Joe and his family.

Currently, Joe has performed in front of SOLD-OUT concerts at Fordham University, intimate venues all over NYC, opened for Lucas Prata, Judy Torres and Brenda K. Starr at a 103.5 KTU event. This is just the beginning for this fresh, new artist who is surely to become a household name.

You can hear two of Joe's songs: “On You” and “Rush” on Desert One Web Radio Las Vegas as they have been added to the airplay rotation as part of K.A.A.N.

For more information on Joe please visit: www.myspace.com/joevenicenow or contact Terence Osborne: Terenceosb01@aol.com OFFICIAL WEB SITE COMING SOON!

If your an Artist; solo, band or a DJ, you can send 2 songs to KryKey Personal Web Radio to be played on one of the web radio stations that is part of K.A.A.N. and also a bio and photo for our "Spotlight an Artist" series.

Web Radio, Live Music and Merchandising

Web Radio, Live Music and Merchandising
all part of an Artists Promotional Arsenal.

Web Radio promotion is an extremely important aspect of building a musical career, more than it was a few years ago as some web radio station have hundreds to thousands to millions of listeners and it is growing all the time as internet access becomes easier, readily available on many devices, from the home & work computer to mobile phones and now even motor vehicles. It is becoming the quickest method in which to reach a large listening audience - that depending on the web radio station or stations, the format and the promotional campaign can be anywhere from 10,000 listeners to several million. Getting music to play on a terrestrial radio station is a time consuming project, and very few new bands/artists realize how much dedication and work it takes to get a song on. The general assumption is, once in the hands of the Music Director it will automatically be added to the playlist. Unfortunately, that's only the beginning of the long ride to regular rotation. Web Radio is quite different where the songs can be added and rotation becomes almost immediate once a deal has been made with the Web Radio Station. I have mentioned several Web Radio Stations before in my blogs that have programs dedicated to new or independent artists looking for airplay. WCUT Radio in New York USA, Red Babe in Minsk Belarus, Desert One in Las Vegas USA and London Web Radio in England are some I can think of. KryKey Personal Web Radio lets you create your own Web Radio Station for free, but you have to then hassle to get listeners. Web Radio is the future and the future is here now, get your music on a Web Radio Station before it is too late.

Last year the profit from concerts and other live gigs rose globally by 10% to US$25 billion as music sales dropped. This means that it is vitally important for Artists/bands to get out there and do live shows. The reasons are obvious, one this is where a lot of the income will be for them over the next few years and also as a Promotional tool for the sale of the music. If you're independent and starting off, its a good place to sell CD's or how about MP3's on a USB Drive? or a Memory Card? Promote the Web Radio Station the music is being played on at the live show. Find an online store that will take MP3's for digital downloads to sell. There are many out there that offer this service from iTunes which is one of the leaders, to smaller sites. The choice is how much does the Artist want to pay to the seller? iTunes is reported to take a large commission. KryKey Personal Web Radio is currently creating a store for digital downloads that is located on their site and as their customers base grows over the next couple of years, so will the opportunity for Artists to sell their music worldwide and receive a large percentage of the sales. The music companies can see in a few years where recorded sales will be minimal for them and they are now gearing up for the slice of live shows, merchandising and other forms of revenue from the Artist or Band.

Merchandising is another great way for Artist and Bands to promote themselves and also receive revenue. I mean someone buys a t-shirt and wears it around and in effect is like a sandwich board promoting the Artist or Band. Selling them only, selling them at live shows all helps. Options are numerous, outlets are numerous, but a combination of selling at a live show and sell at an online store like KryKey Personal Web Radio covers all bases. If the Artist or Band as their own web site they can also be sold on there. Buy 25 t-shirts and sell them at the live show - even if they are sold at cost, there is a promotional effect. Walking talking sandwich boards.

Try getting a package of web radio airplay, merchandising, music sales and use it with a live show or two - they are out there! Web Radio, Live Music and Merchanising - it is all part of an Artists/Bands Promotional Arsenal.

Now on the verge of finally getting the love and the loot due to him, Seven has aligned himself with underground stalwart label Domination Recordings and released the blazing new EP Ridin' High. With production from Midi.Marc, Keelay and DJ Forge, along with guest appearances from Equinox, Supastition and A.P., the project is a sure-fire sign that Hip-Hop is indeed alive. Wintertime Blues

Wintertime winds blow cold the season Fallen in love, I'm hopin' to be Wind is so cold, is that the reason? Keeping you warm, your hands touching me Come with me dance, my dear Winter's so cold this year You are so warm My wintertime love to be Winter time winds blue and freezin' Comin' from northern storms in the sea Love has been lost, is that the reason? Trying desperately to be free Come with me dance, my dear Winter's so cold this year And you are so warm My wintertime love to be La, la, la, la Come with me dance, my dear Winter's so cold this year You are so warm My wintertime love to be [The Doors: Wintertime Love (from Waiting for the Sun album)]

Well - the long cold winter is finally over (unless you happen to be reading this in the southern hemisphere!). Vestal virgins are dancing around the sacred fire in preparations for an exciting summer of music festivals. In the UK at this time of year bands are extremely busy hounding festival promoters in order to fill up their summer calendars. The winter hibernation is over and the whole music industry comes to life. The Miami Winter Music conference has just finished and DJs and dance acts are groggily filling planes across the world, returning with their tales of mayhem, and the tracks which will be lacing the summer dancefloors from the Punta Del Este to the streets of San Antonio. The creative spirit comes alive in spring, as flowers blossom and trees flood the countryside with green luminescence from their returning leaves. Like squirrels just run out of nuts, here at KryKey we are plaguing the landscape in search of new food to feast on as we bask in the sun's rays. At festivals across the globe there is a mad rush by emerging bands and artists to fill the bill in new stages. They need to showcase their music and gain new fans.

We have decided to support these emerging artists and have opened the floor of four prime
KryKey radio stations for this purpose. London Web Radio, Desert One, Oz Radio and DJ, are all seeking out music from artists to fill the airwaves. We believe that exposing new talent to the masses is a critical aspect of the music industry. Our growing radio network now has a significant impact on the music industry (there are now over 230 global KryKey radio stations) and we aim to use our new power responsibly. We realise that it isn't perhaps convenient for each individual band to set up their own PRS, so we aim to gather together those individuals and showcase their sounds on the KryKey network. As we scour the social networks for interested parties, we have already struck gold with some excellent artists already submitting material. BenSem, Red Tempa, Lowkey aka Dolce, Viva la Resistance and Rowdee Methodz have all submitted some real quality music to us which is currently being blasted out across the KryKey universe.

If you are a band / DJ / artist, and would like your sounds exposed to a massive global audience, please email the relevant station address with your material in mp3 form, with a short 30s promo advertising your material (also in mp3 format).

Here are the addresses:
londonwebradio@krykey.com (UK & Europe), desertone@krykey.com (USA), ozradio@krykey.com (OZ), dj@krykey.com (Global)

If your area isn't included please just choose the radio station you feel most appropriate for your music and audience. With your music supported by KryKey, we hope that you have a successful summer and manage to fully shake those wintertime blues as you head off to the best festivals and summer parties. Who knows? Maybe you can return to us with tales of your jaunts or maybe even record some live sets? One thing is for sure, we share your excitement for a bright future and hope that KryKey will be laying down the sounds of a great summer.

Airyka’s Mic Booth - 5th April 2009

Airyka’s Mic Booth
5th April 2009

Some say hip hop is dead, but in North Carolina it is very much alive. Although Hip Hop in NC is somewhat opposed by many conservatives because of the popular belief that hip hop is centered around drugs and violence, Emcees in NC strive to use hip hop in a positive way, proving that hip hop’s social impact is not all negative. NC is filled with dope emcees that can and will restore your faith in hip hop.

The south is overrun with talent, but hailing out of N.C comes the next lyrical prodigy. Rowdee Methodz doesn’t follow your everyday backpacker’s mantra. He delivers ethereal swaggers over gutter beats. With mix tapes and albums coming, there is no doubt as to who will be the next underground emcee to rise above sea level. He is an artist that can go from the hardest of block bangers to the illest life stories.

Born in Winston- Salem, NC and raised between Maryland, Pennsylvania and Virginia, Rowdee was influenced by early Hip Hop like KRS ONE, Big Daddy Kane, and Kool G Rap. He finally honed his own style which can only be described as unorthodox. Rowdee did a seven year stint in prison in 1999. After being release he began performing venues such as Somewhere Else Tavern in Greensboro, NC, Peppers in High Point, NC, Ziggys and the Millennium Center in Winston Salem, NC, he has also opened up for the Ruff Rider’s DMX. With his new album Haterz Buffet due to release in June of this year, look for Rowdee to make waves in the industry, just don’t catch a cold in his draft as he shoots by on his way to the top.

You can hear him currently on the web radio stations “Oz Radio”, "Desert One" and “WCUT Radio” on KryKey Personal Web Radio.

Stay tuned as we get to know more dope emcees from North Carolina.

I would like to thank all those who gave great feedback on last week’s column, and ask me to write more of these and ‘spotlight’ more Independent Artists. It is all appreciated. The hip hop scene in NY is starting to look up as of recent. Even though the listeners tire of the audio reruns, the hip hop night life is untarnished. I’m noticing that when the sound is dying the culture keeps it alive. Night clubs, bars and parties are actually on the rise in NY despite dropping CD sales. Music is part of nature; there will be catastrophe if nature doesn’t have its way. So hip hop will “Never Die” no matter how much it may seem so.

This week’s Independent Artist spotlight is BBQ Brown and Smooth.

Raised in Brooklyn NY, artist BBQ Brown gained enough experience and street credit to make a mark in hip hop. He’s seen almost all of what hip hop has to offer and refuses to sit quiet while the industry is being tainted with mediocrity. Now he’s on the hip hop scene with a vengeance and from what we’ve heard, it’s not lookin’ too good for these other rappers! Look for BBQ Brown to be played on WCUT Radio, Red Babe Radio, London Web Radio and Desert One Radio., all on KryKey Personal Web Radio. If anyone can get the crowd’s attention it’s BBQ. I’m thinkin’ you lyricist need to just give this guy the lane!

Nu Era is a hip hop/ R&B group from BKNY who are unmatched in the category pop, because they have a style that is so hot you can’t stay still. Artists Smoova, Vicious, and Fever make an unstoppable trio in this game right now. With Smoova’s old school type singing style, Fever’s witty flow and Vicious with his f**k it…f**k you delivery makes them the best of all worlds and they’re hitting the NY hip hop scene harder than ever! If there was ever a better time than now for these guys I can’t imagine it. The time for NU ERA is now.
